Schola Amoris School will host an exciting fun walk in an effort to raise awareness on autism. This event is held annually to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day.
Many organisations around the world mark this day by hosting fundraising initiatives and awareness campaigns.
Schola Amoris School is a school for pupils with special educational needs and was one of the first three schools to be involved in the pilot project of providing education and training for pupils with autism in KwaZulu-Natal in 2006.
The school started with two classes with a total of 15 pupils. Currently, they have seven classes, with a total of 90 pupils.
The school offers several much-needed critical services, including advice concerning assessment and diagnosis from medical professionals, information on schools and therapists in the field, information on schools and strategies for family life, and parent support services.

The school encounters several challenges daily in terms of services for pupils, such as lack of funds due to budgetary constraints and high-level support needs of the learners, which require specialised adapted assistive devices and technologies to enhance both teaching and learning.
To address these challenges, Schola Amoris School will host the fun walk.
The purpose of this initiative is two-fold: to create awareness among mainstream society on autism and to raise funds to build two additional classrooms at a cost of about R500, 000.
The autism 5km fun walk will be held on Saturday, April 20, at the Park Rynie Campsite. Registration starts at 7am, and the walk begins at 9am. See you there!
